1970 Lotus Europa S2

I finally found the Lotus Europa that I was looking for and amazingly it was only a 40 minute drive away. This worked out very well as the cost of bringing the Lotus Europa Twin Cam that I was looking at in Los Angeles up to Canada and importing the car would be close to $2,500.

I’s hard to judge how much mileage is on the car, the odometer shows 20,266 miles but in usual Lotus fashion doesn’t work. Amazingly all of the other electrical components do. The body has been repainted in a very pretty yellow with a white stripe. The paint overall is in fantastic shape for an older paint job, not perfect but a good driver. As usual there are a number of cracks in the paint, not too bad but they are there.

The interior is very typical Lotus of this era… worn! The wood dash is cracking like crazy, the seats have a few rips and the headliner is a mess. On the positive side, the dash cover is perfect, the center consul not bad and the car has a very nice 12 inch steering wheel. Unlike so many of the other older British cars I’ve looked at, this cars gauges are in beautiful condition.

The Renault engine runs well although a mild tuneup is needed. Of course, being a true Lotus the engine is leaking oil from somewhere.

The first item of business after driving the Lotus home will be to install new tires. These tires are at least 17 years old as the car hasn’t been driven since 2001.
